Sandra Z. Brothers, M.D.

Dr. Sandra Z. Brothers, a native Oregonian, began her pursuit of health and fitness growing up during the 1970's in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. While enjoying a scholastic interest in Science and Biology in high school, she excelled as an athlete, competing at the state level in Cross Country and Track and running at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Her experiences in an Outward Bound Winter Wilderness Expedition and a summer job working in National Parks and Wilderness Areas via The Youth Conservation Corps further shaped her love of nature and healthy living. During four years in Colorado at the United States Air Force Academy she earned a dual Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Sciences and Biology. She competed on the Academy's Intercollegiate Track and Cross Country Teams and enjoyed spending her free weekends bicycling through the magnificent Rocky Mountains.

After her graduation and commission as an Air Force Officer, Dr. Brothers was assigned to San Antonio, Texas, to The School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB. She spent 5 years performing medical research for the Air Force while developing her interest in women's health and fitness. She remained active in the running communty, competing for Air Force Systems Command in the Air Force-wide Cross Country meet in 1988 while continuing to run in local races around south Texas. In pursuit of a larger goal, she resigned her commission as Captain in the US Air Force and moved to Dallas to study at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

Dr. Brothers' goal was to provide motivation for health, wellness, and fitness for women through her medical practice. While she discovered that conventional Western Medical training is more focused on illness and disease than on wellness, she felt that through Obstetrics and Gynecology she could more positively influence women's health and fitness choices than through other medical specialties. Having received an excellent education on high volumes of obstetric patients while a medical student at Parklnad Memorial Hospital, Dr. Brothers chose to do her residency training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, consistently rated in the top 10 hospitals in the nation for Gynecology. Dr. Brothers thrived in the Baylor system, learning everything she could from the 30 plus private-practice Obstetrician/Gynecologists with whom she trained. Dr. Brothers was so enamored by the environment of "evidence-based medicine," teaching, and patient-friendly care at Baylor University Medical Center that she chose to remain there to pursue her private practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Brothers' practice has matured over the past 9 years, providing women of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds with choices and guidance through all of their gynecologic needs. Dr. Brothers prides herself with the ability to walk a patient through her options based upon her individuality, from contraceptives for an athlete or an executive, to treatment options for heavy menstrual cycles, to birthing experiences for women who desire minimal intervention. She has assisted many women with infertility issues to achieve the pregnancy they desired. Dr. Brothers is honest, ethical, and genuinely caring.

Dr. Brothers lives in Old East Dallas with her husband, Dr. Mike Holub, and their three sons Dwight, Vance, and Charlie. She and her husband are very involved in their sons' lives, serving as Cub Scout Den Leaders, assisting with coaching basketball, and volunteering at their church and school, St. Thomas Aquinas. Dr. Brothers still enjoys running and continues to train for and run an occasional marathon.
